If you’re looking for a slice of paradise thatâs a little off the beaten path, Camiguin Island should be at the top of your list. Often overlooked in favour of more famous islands like Palawan or Siargao, Camiguin is a gem packed with natural beauty, epic snorkeling spots, volcanoes, waterfalls, and a laid-back local vibe. Here’s your complete guide to making the most of your tripâincluding two unforgettable day trips to White Island and Mantigue Island, where turquoise waters and sea turtles await.
Getting to Paradise
Getting to Camiguin Island is easier than you might think, with two main options: you can either catch a short domestic flight from Cebu or take a scenic ferry ride from Bohol.
I opted to arrive by ferry from Bohol, which was a smooth and affordable journey with beautiful views along the way. When it was time to leave, I flew out to Cebu, and that route was just as straightforwardâquick, hassle-free, and good value for the price. Whether you choose to get the ferry or fly, both options are comfortable and convenient ways to reach this stunning island destination.
Look below at ferry and flight times to see what works for you.
đď¸ White Island: A Sandbar in the Middle of Paradise
No trip to Camiguin is complete without a visit to White Island, a stunning, crescent-shaped sandbar just off the coast. You can catch a local boat from the beach near Alex Bar & Restaurant (more on that gem later), and it only takes about 10 minutes to reach the island.
Heads up:
- There’s zero shade on White Island, so bring your own water, sunscreen, and snacks.
- You can hire umbrellas for a small fee once you arriveâdo it.
- It’s literally just sand and seaâpure and beautiful, but unforgiving if you’re unprepared.
Go early in the morning to avoid the midday heat and catch the sandbar at its most photogenic. The views of Mt. Hibok-Hibok in the distance are jaw-dropping.

đ˘ Mantigue Island: Coral Reefs and Sea Turtles
For a day of snorkeling and swimming, Mantigue Island is a must. Boats (which can carry up to six people) will take you to this lush, forested island fringed by white sand and vibrant coral reefs.
Once there, you can explore the marine sanctuaryâhome to a deep coral trench and loads of turtles! The snorkeling here is some of the best we experienced in the Philippines. Itâs easy to spend hours in the water.

Tips for Mantigue Island:
- Bring your own snorkeling gear if possible.
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen to protect the ecosystem.
- A valid driver’s license is essential if you’re riding a scooter to the boat launchâwe got stopped by police en route, so be prepared.
â°ď¸ The Sunken Cemetery: Haunting and Beautiful
This iconic site, marked by a giant cross rising from the sea, is all that’s left visible after the 1871 volcanic eruption sank the local cemetery. You can pay to swim or take a boat out to the cross itself, but it’s just as atmospheric from the shore.
On our visit, the weather wasnât ideal, so we chose not to swim outâbut the eerie view and historical significance made it worth the stop.

Chasing Waterfalls: Tuasan & Katibawasan
Camiguin is known for its waterfalls, and we visited two of the most popular:
Tuasan Falls
This waterfall has become a bit touristy, but it still has charm. You can take a dip in the cool pool at the bottom and enjoy the surrounding jungle. Itâs easily accessible and a great quick stop.

Katibawasan Falls
A taller, more dramatic waterfall cascading down a steep cliff. The pool here isnât ideal for swimming, but the sheer scale and misty atmosphere make it worth seeing. Itâs especially refreshing on a hot afternoon.

đ´ Food on Camiguin: A Mixed Bag with a Few Gems
Food on Camiguin can be hit or miss, but there are definitely a couple of places worth checking out.
đŁ Alex Bar & Restaurant
Located near the White Island boat terminal, this unassuming spot surprised us with its delicious sushiâincluding a unique chicken sushi that we still regret not ordering again before we left. Friendly service, good prices, and a convenient location make it a top pick.
đ Chillâs Beach
If youâre craving something more Western, Chillâs Beach is a fantastic beachside restaurant where you can enjoy fresh, wood-fired pizza with your toes in the sand and a gorgeous sunset view right in front of you. Itâs a perfect dinner spot to wind down after a full day of exploring. The laid-back vibes, salty breeze, and golden-hour glow make it more than just a mealâit’s a whole mood.

đĽŞUtopia Cafe
Utopia Cafe is a must visit with jaw dropping views of the islands and a range of delicious food. High up in the mountains surrounded by palm trees offers food like toasted sandwiches and cinnamon rolls for brunch aswell as pasta dishes making it a great spot for dinner. We visited multiple times while on the island and was never disappointed.

đĄ Where to Stay in Camiguin
Accommodation ranges from budget to boutique. Here are two places we stayed and liked:
đââď¸ Canzoneâs Cabana
A charming spot with a huge pool and cozy little rooms. Great if you’re looking for something relaxing with a bit of style.

SJ Pabua Travellers Inn
A cheaper and more basic option, but still comfortable. Clean, well-located, and friendly staff.
Both accommodations provided scooters, which are essential for getting around the island. Just rememberâyouâll need a valid driverâs license if you’re riding. We were stopped by police on the way to Mantigue Island, so don’t skip this step.

đ˛ Getting Around
Scooters are by far the best way to explore Camiguin. The island is small and manageable, with scenic coastal roads and short distances between attractions. Traffic is light, but always wear a helmet and drive carefully.
Camiguin might not be as famous as other Philippine islands, but thatâs part of its charm. With dramatic landscapes, incredible snorkeling, peaceful beaches, and authentic experiences, itâs a perfect escape for travelers who want something a little different.
Whether youâre snorkeling with turtles off Mantigue Island, standing in awe of the Sunken Cemetery, or watching the sun set over White Island, Camiguin is full of moments that stick with you long after you’ve left.
