Nestled in the Central Visayas region, Siquijor is a captivating island that offers a serene escape from the bustling tourist hotspots. Known for its mystical allure, pristine beaches, and lush landscapes, Siquijor promises an unforgettable adventure for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.

Getting Around Siquijor
While Siquijor’s charm lies in its laid-back atmosphere, getting around the island requires some planning. Tuktuks are available but can be quite expensive. A more economical and flexible option is to rent a scooter. Upon arrival at the port, you’ll find several rental shops offering scooters at reasonable rates. This allows you to explore the island at your own pace, visiting attractions all around the island.
If you have substantial luggage, consider booking a shared transfer to your accommodation. Once settled in, you can then rent a scooter locally. This approach ensures comfort during transit and flexibility for island exploration.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
Siquijor enjoys a tropical climate, with the dry season typically spanning from December to May. During this period, the weather is ideal for beach activities and outdoor adventures. However, occasional thunderstorms can occur, especially in the late afternoon. It’s advisable to check the local weather forecast before planning your activities.
🌿 Chase Waterfalls at Lungnason Falls
Tucked away in the forested interior of the island, Lugnason Falls is a refreshing oasis that’s often overlooked by the typical tourist trail. This makes it perfect if you’re looking for a peaceful swim without the crowds. The waterfall flows into a clear, deep pool surrounded by tropical greenery—ideal for a cooling dip. The area is easily accessible, and the short walk from the entrance adds to the charm of the visit.

🌊 Dive into the Best Beach: Salagdoong
On the quieter eastern coast of Siquijor lies Salagdoong Beach, which, in my opinion, is the best beach on the island. Although it’s a bit of a ride from where most accommodations are (typically on the west side), it’s absolutely worth the journey. Expect soft, white sand, crystal-clear water perfect for swimming, and cliff diving platforms for thrill-seekers looking for that shot of adrenaline. Just remember—be careful when jumping, especially during low tide or rough seas.

🛵 Scenic Drive to the Island’s Observation Tower
If you’ve rented a scooter (which I highly recommend for exploring the island), take a ride inland to the Siquijor Observation Tower. Perched at one of the highest points on the island, the tower offers 360-degree views of Siquijor’s lush terrain and coastlines. But honestly, the journey there is just as spectacular as the destination—the winding roads pass through small villages, dense jungle, and peaceful farmland.

✨ Embrace the Mystical: The Enchanted Balete Tree & Witchy Photo Ops
You can’t visit Siquijor without diving into a bit of its mystical side. Head to the old enchanted Balete tree, said to be over 400 years old and rumored to have magical powers. At the base of the tree, a natural spring feeds a small fish spa—dip your feet in and let the tiny fish nibble away dead skin.
And for a fun, quirky photo op, don’t miss the chance to “fly” on a witch’s broomstick at one of the roadside attractions—you’ll see signs offering this unique (and Instagrammable) experience.

🌅 Sunset Bliss at Paliton Beach
When the day winds down, make your way to Paliton Beach on the west coast to catch one of the most spectacular sunsets in the Philippines. The calm, shallow waters and golden sand create a perfect setting for an evening dip. Local vendors often sell snacks and drinks, so grab a fresh coconut or barbecue skewer, lay out your towel, and soak in the golden glow as the sun sinks into the sea.

🌙 Where to Stay: Tagbalayon Lodging House
If you’re looking for a place that balances comfort, convenience, and a local touch, I highly recommend staying at Tagbalayon Lodging House. I stayed here during my visit and couldn’t have been happier. The rooms are cozy and clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the location makes it easy to explore the island.
One of the biggest perks? They offer on-site scooter hire, which saves you the hassle of arranging transport elsewhere. Whether you’re heading to waterfalls, beaches, or the observation point, having your own scooter makes all the difference.
Even better, Tagbalayon has a convenient in-house restaurant serving up a range of local and international dishes. After a long day of exploring, it was the perfect place to unwind with a good meal without needing to venture far.

🍕 Where to Eat: Dolce Amore Italian Restaurant
For foodies or anyone craving a delicious taste of Italy in the heart of Siquijor, you absolutely can’t miss Dolce Amore Italian Restaurant. This was hands-down my favorite place to eat on the island. The menu features authentic Italian dishes, but the highlight for me was their freshly made pizzas—thin, crispy, and topped with quality ingredients.
Whether you’re indulging in a hearty pasta, a wood-fired pizza, or simply sipping wine under the stars, Dolce Amore delivers on both flavour and atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed evening meal after a day of exploring. Just be prepared—it’s popular for a reason, so it’s worth arriving a bit early during peak dinner hours!

Whether you’re in it for waterfalls, beaches, jungle roads, or just a bit of island magic, Siquijor offers a little something for everyone. Its compact size makes it easy to explore, but the memories you’ll make here will be anything but small. So rent that scooter, pack your swimwear and your curiosity, and let the island cast its gentle spell on you.
