It gained popularity after being featured in the Bollywood film, ‘Dil Chahta Hai.’ Exploring the ruins and watching the sunset from this vantage point is an experience not to be missed. Aswell as the views it offers Chapora fort offers insight into the countries history and culture upon a hill it truly is a hidden gem.
2. Dona Paula Viewpoint:
Located at the meeting point of the Zuari and Mandovi rivers, Dona Paula offers panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. This viewpoint is perfect for a romantic walk along the promenade, admiring the coastline, and witnessing stunning sunsets. Although it can get crowded in peak tourist season so if crowds are not for you try visiting in the week or even during sunrise.
3. Shree Mangesh Temple:
This esteemed Hindu temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds great religious significance for the locals. Located in Priol, Shree Mangesh Temple showcases exemplary Goan architecture and is a serene place to seek solace and marvel at intricate carvings. The beautiful colourful temple is best visited in the morning or evening as it can get very hot and there is not much shade. I also believe that it feels a lot more peaceful when it is not busy and really feels like a place to reflect.
4. Velha Goa:
Also known as Old Goa, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was once the capital of Portuguese India. Velha Goa boasts beautiful churches and cathedrals, such as the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral, which exhibit impressive architectural grandeur and historical importance. Velha Goa was one of my favourite places to visit in all of India as it truly does show the history of the country while set in a beautiful tranquil area. Most of Velha Goa has been amazingly preserved however, other parts have been turned into museums or ruins. Nevertheless you can feel the history and sense the splendour of the city that was once had a population larger than Lisbon and London and referred to as ‘the Rome of the East’.
5. The Views from Outside Aguada Fort:
While Aguada Fort itself holds historical significance, the views from outside its premises are equally mesmerizing. Explore the surroundings of the fort, witness the crashing waves against the rocky shorelines, capture stunning photographs, and enjoy the atmosphere without paying an entry fee.
