Boarding a train from Delhi, we journey to Agra, home to the magnificent Taj Mahal and other architectural gems. The Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, exhibits unparalleled architectural beauty and an eternal love story. Built by Maghal Emperor Shah Jahan to house the body of his favourite wife who died after the birth of their fourteenth child. No matter how many pictures you have seen of the Taj Mahal before visiting Agra nothing will prepare you for the grandeur and beauty of this towering white Mable masterpiece. As dawn breaks, witness the mesmerizing sun rays dance on its white marble façade, to truly appreciate how mesmerising this outstanding example of love is.
Next visit Agra fort just down the river from the Taj Mahal this must see historical attractions right next to each other along the river. Agra fort is an historical fort that was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638 when the capital was shifter from Agra to Delhi. This red fortress of sandstone offers views over the city that cannot be missed.
While in Agra, don’t miss the chance to visit the Baby Taj Mahal, also known as the Tomb of ltimad-ud-Daulah. This exquisite structure crafted entirely out of white marble evokes a sense of tranquillity and awe.
Jaipur: The Pink Jewel of Rajasthan
After soaking in the majesty of Agra, hop on another train to Jaipur, the flamboyant Pink City of Rajasthan Known for its vivid colours, magnificent palaces, and the warmth of its people, Jaipur promises an enriching experience. Begin your exploration at the Amer Fort, an imposing fortress that offers splendid views of the city. You can reach the fort by a short tuktuk ride from the centre of town, enhancing the regal experience. Inside, explore the opulent palaces, courtyards, and artistic details that reflect the royal grandeur of Rajasthan.
Alternatively you can take a short hike or jeep ride up the hill to Nahargarh Fort, the fort built in 1734 offers sweeping views of the city as well as the opportunity to walk the walls that extend over the surrounding hills connecting to Amer fort. Although Amer is considerably larger than Nahargarh and should be visited for its beauty and history if you are looking marvellous views then Nahargarh has to be your first choice.
Moving on, visit the City Palace, a stunning blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The palace houses several museums showcasing royal artefacts, costumes, and weaponry. Make your way to the iconic Hawa Mahal, also known as the Palace of Winds, an intricately designed structure with numerous small windows that allowed royal women to observe the outside world without being seen.
After all of that exploring you will be hungry I found this great little restaurant called hawk view restaurant and bar. It serves great local and Italian food on a little rooftop overlooking the city. Its a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the streets of India and just relax with great view of not only the streets below but, also Nahargarh Fort.
Getting Around
When getting around the cities the safest way is to use apps like Uber and Ola as you can share your location with people you trust and don’t have to worry about bargaining before you go anywhere. However a lot of people will travel using tuktuks and while this is a more convenient way you will get up charged for being a foreigner. Either way is great aslong as you prioritise your safety.
